Wavelab Studio is teaming up with Club Crawl® to host a showcase at the Hotel Congress outdoor stage.
Craig Schumacher, owner of Wavelab Studio, is also the producer and engineer for beloved such as Neko Case, Calexico and this year’s headliner (playing at the Rialto Theatre), DeVotchKa. In fact, it was Schumacher who pursued DeVotchKa and got the group to come to Tucson to be part of Club Crawl®. Having just purchased the building that houses his studio at 111 S. Sixth Ave.,…

How is the streetcar construction affecting the Club Crawl® layout?
Good news: We are still using Congress Street between the Rialto Theatre and Hotel Congress, and Fifth Avenue between Broadway Boulevard and Toole Avenue, to host three of our outdoor stages. However, the section of Congress Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues will remain under construction, and will not be part of this fall’s event.
Where can I park?

Club Crawl® is proud to feature some renowned out-of-town musicians
Jerry "Hot Rod" DeMink cut his teeth in the music business back in 1994 as the guitarist and bandleader for Chicago bluesman A.C. Reed. After several years on the road, he returned home to San Diego, where he met roots-rock balladeer Billy Bacon. Together, as Billy Bacon and the Forbidden Pigs, they formed one of the most entertaining touring acts around. There were moments when Hot Rod would put on a motorcycle helmet and spin on his head while playing the…

Ozomati, Jurassic 5 co-founder Chali 2na headlines this spring's Club Crawl®
Hip-hop artist Chali 2na—a founding member of the musical collectives Ozomatli and Jurassic 5, and a thriving solo artist in his own right—is adamant that an early interest in graffiti art and rapping kept him away from drugs and gangs.
Born Charles Stewart Jr. in Chicago 41 years ago, 2na will exercise his MC talents as a headliner at the Tucson Weekly's 2012 Spring Club Crawl®. Preceding 2na on the Rialto/KRQ stage will be the acts Vine St.,…

How is the modern streetcar construction on Congress Street affecting Club Crawl®?
The section of Congress Street between Toole and Fifth avenues—the area between the Rialto Theatre and Hotel Congress—will remain a part of the Club Crawl® enclosure. However, the section of Congress Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues will be under construction. To make room for everyone, the Club Crawl® enclosure will include both Fifth and Sixth avenues…

Meet the Visitors - A number of touring musicians are joining the Club Crawl® party
Kicking Harold is part of an elite group: It includes musicians from Tucson who actually released a record on a major label.
A move to Los Angeles in the early '90s was just what the doctor ordered for these three friends from Tucson, because what started as a "jam session" quickly turned into an indie record deal. After the band scored success with national touring and airplay, MCA Records came calling. In 1996, they transformed their indie release, Ugly and…

Tips for Crawlers
How do I get into Club Crawl®—and how do I avoid lines?
There are two main entrances into Club Crawl®. The east entrance is at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Congress Street, and the west entrance is at Sixth Avenue and Congress Street. Our last three Club Crawl® events have been our biggest ever, so to keep up with demand, we have made both the east and west entrances twice the size to accommodate crowds. We still advise folks to show up early and beat the…

Judging Life - The Love Me Nots' Nicole Laurenne
by Gene Armstrong
For The Love Me Nots, it's all in the Farfisa and the fuzz.
It's hard to ignore, of course, lead singer Nicole Laurenne's commanding presence. Behind the microphone, she's the embodiment of female power and assertive sexuality, barely controlling her punky frenzy. When she performs, she sounds as if she's 10 feet tall.
But the Phoenix band's sly, sexy combination of garage and psychedelic rock, vintage new wave, R&B rave-ups,…
